International Baccalaureate Program (IB):
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized educational program designed to foster intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth in students aged 3 to 19. It aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed in an ever-changing world.
The IB curriculum is structured into three programs PYP, MYP, DP:
Primary Years Program (PYP): Designed for students aged 3 to 12, focusing on inquiry-based learning and fostering independent thinking. In this level, students explore concepts through themes, in which they develop critical thinking and communication skills. Students in this age group enjoy working together collaboratively to present their projects through exhibitions and co-curricular activities.
Middle Years Programme (MYP): Designed for students aged 12 to 16, the MYP provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills. It encourages students to make connections between their studies and the real world, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. Arabic and English languages are offered as first language and language acquisition, in addition to other subjects such as literature, mathematics, and science.
Diploma Programme (DP): Targeting students aged 16 to 19, the DP is a rigorous pre-university course of study. Students choose subjects from six subject groups, including languages, sciences, mathematics, arts, individuals and societies, and interdisciplinary subjects. They also undertake an extended essay, engage in creativity, action, service (CAS) activities, and study the theory of knowledge (TOK).
Key features of the IB curriculum include its international perspective, emphasis on holistic development, commitment to inquiry-based learning, and focus on developing intercultural understanding and global-mindedness. Additionally, the IB places a strong emphasis on developing students' skills for lifelong learning, including critical thinking, research skills, and communication skills.
The three programs are offered in the IB section in the IEC in which a set of professional and IB specialists strive to provide students with quality education and learning experience.
