Islamic Educational College is a Candidate School* for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) . This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Islamic Educational College Schools believes is important for our students.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an educational framework for students aged 11-16, offered by the International Baccalaureate (IB). It is designed to provide a comprehensive and holistic education that encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners.

As a candidate school, IEC is currently in the process of implementing the IB programmes and undergoing evaluation to become an authorized IB World School.

The MYP is built around eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design. Students study each of these subject groups, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning that connects the subjects together. The MYP also places a strong focus on developing critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and intercultural awareness.

In addition to their academic studies, MYP students complete a Personal Project, which is a self-directed piece of research or creative work that allows them to explore their interests and passions. They also engage in Service Learning, which involves actively engaging with their local community and making a positive impact.

Assessment in the MYP is criterion-referenced, meaning that students are assessed against a set of clear and consistent criteria, rather than being ranked against each other. This approach allows for a more holistic and individualized assessment of each student’s progress.

The MYP aims to develop students who are knowledgeable, open-minded, caring, reflective, and principled. It prepares them for further study in the IB Diploma Programme, as well as for success in their future academic and professional lives.
